*This post is partially inspired by a soul-sister, “Em” and brought to life by a discussion in the Empaths Tribe, at www.Tribe.net.

It seems that more often than not, people are ready to go up in arms over organized religion. The targets are usually some or all of the religions that come from Abraham (Islam, Christianity -pick your path there- and Judaism). The temperatures run high even when the topic of conversation isn’t even about religion, someone on the posting group, in the conversation will inevitably display their anger and draw the sword of opinion.

Undoubtedly we live in a country that has a large Christian contingent of believers, in some form or another. We have prominent men and woman, in politics, on television, radio and print, displaying their faith with a slant onto their political, social or personal agenda. Their lives, cast in the light of their God, become easy targets to blame, denounce, raise up and polarize around, changing the view of a religious path from what it is in truth. Is the belief system at fault or the individual who has twisted that system to suit their own goals?

Every religion and spiritual path has its vices and pitfalls. There is no perfect course when you really think about it because they are defined and designed by human beings and we, by natural default, have a host of beautiful… well… “faults”! Therefore none of these religions can be a perfected path, unless of course you believe in the beauty of flaws, a design in life that allows for mistakes, trouble and obstacles to learn and grow from.

You can get your back up, find yourself affronted, insulted or even angry but this is precisely my point that I am trying to make, or at least part of the point. Your anger does not make the world a better place. Your insistence that you have the right of way, does not make it easier for others to live in the world. Your ego-centric stubbornness to prove you are right does not create a better world.

For well over 2,000 years human being have used religion as a method to control, to wage war, to demonize others and to collect power over people, cities and countries. People have used religious egomania to provide false evidence for wars, genocide, slavery and a host of “isms” from racism to sexism. At some point, we a as a race have to say, “This must stop.”
Blogathon 2006

Anyone know if this is going on? I jumped on the blogathon bandwagon a little too late in 2005, but would like to participate. I know there's a "Safer Internet" blogathon happening on Tuesday, February 7th, but it looks like people are being invited to comment, and not to post. And also, I'm really not behind organizations that claim to want to "protect" people from the internet.

In any case, if anyone knows if there will be a blogathon 2006, let me know, ya hear?
1. All politics starts at the local level, and if we wanna fight Bush then it takes ordinary New Yorkers to do so - at the municipal levels of government.

2. This ad makes history by showing, for the first time, an openly gay politician with his/her partner.

new blog rating and review site (another way to pimp your blog!)

My new company, Ratingz Inc, produces “rating and review” sites where consumers can rate various services and products. The business is based on RateMyProfessors.com, the number one rating site among college students, which serves almost two million pages per day.

We are about to launch a new site called BlogRatingz.com, where people can rate and review… you guessed it… BLOGS!

When the site is formally launched in a couple of weeks, we’ll be sending out press releases and posting links on our other websites, including RateMyProfessors.com. In the mean time, we’re looking for bloggers who would like to add their blogs to the site, and perhaps ask their readers to rate them. (Feel free to rate your own blog as well... I rated mine!)

It’s a good chance to get early visibility on what we expect will be a high-traffic site: http://www.blogratingz.com/

differences amongst blog providers

I'm looking for a blog provider so i can start. Ive heard good things about moveable type and thinkpad. I have tried blogger.com but I want to be able to customize it more (without have to get too involved with code). i would like something that is easy to set up but has the flexiblity to customize later if needed. i also like the idea of being able to limit access to choosen blog entries. what are the major difference between the providers and what do people recommend? (paid and unpaid.)
thanks!

Publishing RSS Feed Headlines onto your blog as Indivdual Links

I have been assigned the task of creating a blog for the firm, which
includes a live RSS feed. My boss wants the RSS feed to display the
individual headlines as links and then replace the headlines with new ones everyday automatically.

I have signed up with a couple news aggregators and am
able to post headlines from those programs, but they post one at a
time. And they post as a link to where the headlines are kept, not displaying the actual healines itself. And I would have to change the headlines everyday myself to keep up with the current headlines.

If there is any information or advice that you could give me regarding this problem, that would be greatly appreciated.
MyBlogSite review

I spent a good couple of hours working MyBlogSite. The site claims, "MyBlogSite is by far the best blog tool on the net. It’s easy to use for those that need the help. But it has the most comprehensive tool set for web savvy experts." And IMHO, they are correct. In the matter of a few minutes, I was able to configure a blog, which is mostly done by dragging and dropping spaces around a Web Form, but you can also edit the HTML behind these spaces. You can add your own Adsense, remove their Adsense and post using APIs or their WYSIWYG control.

Compared to Blogger. It's a lot more responsive. Like Blogger, it's free. Both are equally very easy to use as compared to most blogging tools. Blogger doesn't support RSS or MetaWeblogApi, whereas MyBlogSite does.

Compared to Typepad. I like to consider Typepad the best achievement in technical blogging platform. Now there's a tie for the lead technical blogging platform. The tie breaker is that MyBlogSite is free, whereas Typepad is not free. You can get a free version of Typepad thru Friendster, but free friendster blogs are ad supported and although MyBlogSite is also ad supported, the ads can be easily removed.

What if someone published a magazine about Blogs??
A monthly magazine about what's happening in the blog world and how they are percieveing the information. This way the medium of blogs doesn't have to wait arouund for mainstream news to talk about them. Blogs can have their own magazine to represent them.

Hey everybody! I just started my very first blog the other day. I opened it with a riveting review of Coke's new low carb C2 cola! For those who haven't tried it yet, it is a must read.

http://www.winnerofthesat.blogspot.com

How does linking work on a blog? Are you supposed to link to blogs you like? Or are you supposed to link into whatever genre you're in? are there rules to this stuff? Is there blog etiquette?

Hi - what are your daily reads? I read http://randomwalks.com , http://hello.typepad.com and http://www.gogogadgetdiane.com/ every day, and lately I've been playing around with http://kinja.com/ . Does anyone else here use Kinja or have a group of blogs they read every day?

Looking for a "typical blog" -- does such a thing even exist?

I'm looking for a "typical blog" (or more accurately, an "archetypal blog") for a screenshot with breakouts describing the different parts (for use in my book). Amazingly, I'm having a hard time finding one. Not a single one in my blogroll or newsreader fits the bill! ;-)

It needs to have a predominantly white background, minimal graphics and advertising, comments, trackbacks, permalinks, a SHORT blogroll and archive section, a visible XML graphic or RSS link, and a business/professional focus. Ideally, all the key elements would appear within a single screenfull, so I don't have to splice together images (i.e., a short blogroll and archives).

If you've got one to suggest, please reply.
