I'm looking for a blog provider so i can start. Ive heard good things about moveable type and thinkpad. I have tried blogger.com but I want to be able to customize it more (without have to get too involved with code). i would like something that is easy to set up but has the flexiblity to customize later if needed. i also like the idea of being able to limit access to choosen blog entries. what are the major difference between the providers and what do people recommend? (paid and unpaid.)
thanks!
thanks!

Re: differences amongst blog providers
Sat, January 22, 2005 - 12:34 AMA good idea is to host your own, or go with someone who has a CMS like Mambo installed.
I used Mambo, it rocks :P

Re: differences amongst blog providers
Fri, January 28, 2005 - 12:04 PMI started a new blog site a few weeks ago where members can join and have their own blogs. We provide 27 templates to start with and from there, you can customize any one of them or make your own template. I even have a members help area that provides you with codes to display everything from avatars to what to display on the page.
In a few weeks we will have the ability to upload photos and have them dispaly in an album.
Didn't mean to spam but you did ask for a suggestion!

Re: differences amongst blog providers
Sat, February 12, 2005 - 2:18 PMI believe you'll find that the blog services don't provide the flexibility you might want. I've hosted my blog on a standard hosting service (Hosting Matters: hostmatters.com) and they provide the support I need to host the blog using the software I want.
I used Movable Type for nearly three years before switching to WordPress: www.wordpress.org. It's easy to install and very customizable. There are a wide variety of plugins available, including many that will keep the comment spam at bay. The administration panel has a long list of customizations. You don't need to know any coding, even for installing plugins. If you do know PHP, you can tailor it any way you like.
Best part: it is free.

Re: differences amongst blog providers
Tue, March 15, 2005 - 7:21 AMI have been using blogspot. It is easy to set up if you have good basic computer skills. I have three blogs two of which I set up this weekend. The first one is recently updated.
My socio-political, economic blog is called:
www.knowledgeandfreedom.blogspot.com
My poetry blog is called
www.divinewetness.blogspot.com
and my women's blog is called
www.enlighteningwomen.blogspot.com
I find it very easy to use (they have several but not a large amount of templates) and I have figured out that if I want to update something like a links post I just edit it and put the oldest date on it so it appears at the bottom again.
